Promoting universal access to safe and sustainable cooking

About the Global Cooksafe Coalition

Launched in Australia in late 2022 and in the UK in 2024, the Global Cooksafe Coalition (GCC) is a response to the growing awareness of the impacts of dangerous fuels and their use for cooking.

GCC is a platform for members, partners and government supporters–who are leaders in the spheres of public health, property and the built environment, aid and development, renewable energy and climate change science and advocacy–to bring their expertise and experience together to ensure the movement towards safe, sustainable cooking. Our property and commercial partners currently hold $284 billion AUD in global property and assets under management.

We ask our partners, including large property companies and not-for-profit members, to commit to switching to safe and clean electric cooking methods. This includes signing up to:

  • Ensure all new kitchens are electric by 2030 (in OECD countries)
  • Ensure all existing kitchens are retrofitted to electric by 2040 (in OECD countries)

High profile ambassador chefs lead the conversation for us as they illustrate the advantages of electric cooking for business and home cooks. Their expertise and influence is crucial in influencing decisions about cooking appliances – which are often the ‘gateway’ for fossil fuels in homes and businesses.

We are funded by philanthropic grants from charitable foundations. In order to maintain independence we do not accept money from governments or companies
