Thanks for reading Electric Connections, an update sent to you as one of the valued partners of the Global Cooksafe Coalition. Happy reading.
Beginning in the UK – with a bang!
On 3 June, the GCC gathered industry leaders, celebrated chefs and sector experts for a wonderful launch event at Silo in London. The occasion demonstrated the power of our coalition to reach across the worlds of fine food, property, health and climate to deliver a safe cooking future for everyone.
The event featured all-electric cooking demonstrations from award-winning chefs Doug McMaster of Silo and John Chantarasak of Anglothai, MC’d by chef Chantelle Nicholson of Apricity. Guests also heard from our members and partners including Ed Green from Grosvenor Property UK; Guy Thomas from Lendlease UK; Cristina Gamboa, CEO of the World Green Building Council and Dr. Frank Kelly, Head of the Environmental Research Group at Imperial College London.

The GCC Family Grows
As we sweep our way into new countries and continents, the Global Cooksafe Coalition is attracting more attention and more partners, members and ambassador chefs. We continue to grow in Australia too, as our influence and reputation increases. To get a full picture of the breadth and diversity of our coalition, visit our Coalition page.

An electric roundtable
Following our launch in the UK, the GCC will be co-hosting two roundtable meetings with the Westminster City Council and Global Action Plan in October 2024. The meetings, at the Lord Mayor’s Chamber in Westminster, will address the electrification of commercial cooking as well as the policies that will enable a transition to electric cooking in UK homes. Attendees will include manufacturing, property, food and beverage, academia, hospitality, policy, government and civil society. Media wins
We love getting messages out there in the media to change the culture of cooking, especially when our ambassador chefs are front and centre. The last couple of months were punctuated by media coverage of the launch in the UK and some big articles in Australian media including on the front page of Melbourne newspaper The Age. Electrifying the house on the hill
Earlier this month the GCC had the fabulous opportunity to be an exhibitor at the Household Electrification & Energy Efficiency Showcase at Parliament House in Canberra. The event was organised by Independent Senator for the ACT, David Pocock, in collaboration with the Smart Energy Council and the Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council.
The GCC participated by hosting a stand where we shared videos of our renowned ambassador chefs and gave visitors a look at a real life benchtop induction wok (thanks to Phoeniks Kitchens).

Up soon – Fine Foods in Melbourne
The biggest industry food event is coming to Melbourne (2 – 5 September) and the GCC will be there supporting our friends from the commercial appliance industry including B&S Kitchens, Control Induction, Phoeniks and newcomer, Universal EMC. We’re particularly excited to be filming and participating in wok cooking demonstrations by highly esteemed Hong Kong chef Dai Lung (who cameoed in the cult film ‘God of Cookery’) and GCC chef ambassador and consultant Luke Burgess. Please contact Virginia@cooksafecoalition.org if you’d like to come along.
