This week, GCC had the exciting opportunity to be an exhibitor at the Household Electrification & Energy Efficiency Showcase at Parliament House in Canberra.
The event was organised by Independent Senator for the ACT, David Pocock, in collaboration with the Smart Energy Council and the Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council. His idea was to gather a group of experts for a discussion about what Australia needs to do next in its journey towards electrification of homes. One fifth of emissions are produced by the built environment, so electrifying our homes is a crucial step in decarbonising our society.
The panel included specialists in social housing, energy and housing design. The GCC participated by hosting a stand where we shared videos of our renowned ambassador chefs and gave visitors a look at a real life benchtop induction wok (thanks to Phoeniks Kitchens).
The room was full of politicians, parliamentary staff and industry advisers who seemed really interested in the subject matter and the ideas being floated. Our aim is always to highlight the pivotal role that fossil fuel free kitchens play in the transition and why they should not be forgotten in discussions where electric vehicles, heat pumps and solar panels can sometimes be seen as the champions.
Of course, we also use these opportunities to lend our support to organisations like the Community Housing Industry Association who call for a just transition towards electrification, and we love meeting with all the passionate and clever people working in this space towards our shared goal.
For us, and all the other organisations, politicians and experts who attended this milestone event it’s never been clearer that the future is electric.
